1964 6-A PatchTali Taktaki hosted the 1964 Area 6-A Fellowship at Camp Wenasa.   The lodge’s totem, a juvenile blue heron, is portrayed here as it is on many of the lodge’s flaps.

Tali Taktaki lodge disappeared in the first of the two mergers to hit Scouting in North Carolina.     Camp Wenasa, too, is no longer around.   Its former location is now home to a housing subdivision.

There were also two neckerchiefs issued for this conclave.

The design of the neckerchiefs is different from that of the patch.   It features two hands joined in what was the Scout (BSA) hand clasp at that time.

This gives me an opportunity to get on a bandwagon of sorts.   This is not, and never has been, any sort of handclasp for Ordeal members!       Some still insist on perpetuating this error, even after being corrected.

The second neckerchief is identical to the first except for the addition of the word, “Staff”, beneath the hands.     As far as I know, a “staff” or “host lodge” neckerchief would not be issued again until 1971.

Since 1964 is the year in which I was born, I can’t refer to these as old patches anymore!   The patch is not common but also not particularly rare and can be acquired with some searching and patience.

The neckerchiefs don’t show up as often as the patch simply because fewer people collect them.   When I was actively pursuing these pieces, the neckerchief could be had for less than the pocket patch.     As one would expect, the staff neckerchief is the rarest of the three pieces.
