1973 Area 6-A Fellowship
Tslagi 163 hosted the final Area 6-A Conference in 1973 at the Cherokee Scout Reservation. On January 1, 1973 the BSA’s twelve areas were reorganized into six regions. The eight lodges of Area 6-A were now labeled section SE-3A. Technically one could argue this was the first SE-3A conclave. As there was no change in the composition of this area/section, they chose to meet one last time as the “Area 6-A Fellowship”.
The pocket patch, shown, is based upon the traditional design of Tslagi’s totem used on almost all their flaps. For the first time, the numbers of all the area’s/section’s lodges were shown on the patch.
As with the past two years’ events, two neckerchiefs were issued for this fellowship. One was for delegates and the other for the host lodge. The design of the pocket patch was loosely adapted for the “delegate” neckerchief shown here.
The color scheme was changed for the host lodge neckerchief. The color was changed blue with black piping to gray with red piping. The design was otherwise unchanged.
A patch was also issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary and the end of this area. This is probably the first instance of a patch from our area/section that is not specifically issued for a fellowship, conference or conclave.
The design of this patch is a bit of a puzzle for me. Does anyone know if there is any significance to this? Was this an attempt to depict Nayawin Rar’s night hawk? Was there any significance to the order in which the lodge numbers are listed?
These items, especially the pocket patch, are avidly sought afer by those who seek Tslagi/Tsalagi lodge material. The host lodge neckerchief and the 25th anniversary round are a bit harder than the other two pieces. Beyond that, none of these items should prove particularly expensive or difficult to acquire.
