1984 SE-7 Conclave
Tali Taktaki lodge hosted 1984 SE-7 conclave at Camp Wenasa in Brown Summit, NC. The pocket patch for this event, pictured, marks the first use of a name for this conclave, “Old North State Conclave”.
It’s only speculation on my part, but I suspect the naming of this conclave might be an innovation brought to the section by the returning lodges of western North Carolina. North Carolina is nicknamed the “Old North State”, deriving from the 1710 division of the Carolina colony into North and South Carolina. Since the section now included most of North Carolina this moniker seems appropriate.
The patch design features a rough adaptation of the lodge’s juvenile blue heron totem. The choice of colors guarantees this patch does not easily blend into the background!
There was also a neckerchief issued for this event. The design is an adaptation of the pocket patch. Some changes were made in the colors and lettering.
There probably were other items produced by the section for this conclave but I am not aware of them. Please let me know if anything else was issued. Images would be appreciated.
Croatan 117 produced a neckerchief for its delegates to this conclave. It is a rather simply designed silkscreened neckerchief pictured to the left. My first impression of Croatan lodge, after moving to North Carolina, was seeing their beautiful neckerchief patch (117 P2) worn by the lodge’s brothers at the 1993 SE-7 conclave. This piece, their first and only conclave neckerchief so far, isn’t as impressive to me. This piece was not listed in Blue Book and I have tentatively labeled it “N3?”.
Eswau Huppeday sought to outdo their 1983 “Think Pink” theme with what appears to be a magic rainbow theme for 1984. The neckerchief this lodge issued for its delegates succeeded at being noticeable. It also has not been listed in Blue Book. I have tentatively labeled this piece “N4.6?”.
Lastly, Tali Taktaki produced a neckerchief for this event as the host lodge. The design used on this event’s pocket patch and neckerchief was adapted for use on a white neckerchief. Achowalogen roughly translates from the Lenape as “worker”.
This piece was not listed in Blue Book. I have tentatively listed it on this site as “N4?”.
I don’t believe any of the other lodges produced patches or neckerchiefs for their delagates to this conclave.
