1954 Area 3D Slide

On May 1 and 2, 1954, the lodges of northeastern Pennsylvania met for the first time as Area 3D at Camp Acahela in Blakeslee, Pennsylvania on the Lehigh River. The meeting was hosted by Acahela Lodge #223.

A leather neckerchief slide was issued for the event. Like most other Region 3 slides of the 1950s, it is fairly scarce and hard to find.

Prior to 1954, Wyona Lodge #18 had been assigned to Area 3A with the other lodges that formed Area 3D, but according to the lodge’s history page it had falled on hard times in the early 1950s and allowed its charter to lapse.   At this initial 1954 Area 3D meeting, six candidates from Columbia-Montour Council were inducted, and those initial members revived Wyona Lodge.

Counting these inductees, seven lodges were represented at this first Area 3D meeting:

  • Wyona 18
  • Winingus 30
  • Ah-Pace 58
  • Memeu 125
  • Acahela 223
  • Quekolis 316
  • Tunkhannock 476
