1985 SE-7 Conclave
In 1985 the “Old North State Conclave” was hosted by Catawba 459. This was the first time the lodges of eastern North Carolina were hosted by one of the traditionally “Dixie” lodges of western North Carolina since the 1946-1948 Area I meetings, all hosted by Itibapishe Iti Hollo 188. This was the first time, the conclave was held at a camp of one of the “Dixie” lodges as the earlier Area I meetings were held at Morrow Mountain State Park.
The pocket patch for this conclave, left, prominently features Catawba’s hornets’ nest totem.
There was also a neckerchief produced for this conclave. The patch design was modified somewhat and printed on a tan neckerchief.
By this time it was customary for various other items to be produced for a major Scouting event. While I can’t confirm these yet, I would expect some or most of these to exist: a mug, a bolo tie, jacket patch, and perhaps a neckerchief slide.
This was a quiet year for lodge issues for this conclave.
Catawba was just one of two lodges to issue an item specifically for this conclave. Their flap, pictured, is listed in Blue Book as S24. The flap also commemorated the lodge’s 35th anniversary.
This was just third time a lodge in this “North Carolina” section issued a flap for the section conclave. Croatan was first in 1980 with the 117 F5. Ewau Huppeday was the first lodge with a conclave flap (560 S8) that was not the host lodge that year.
Eswau Huppeday was also the only other lodge to issue an item for this year’s conclave. Following the tradition of the past two years, the lodge produced a neckerchief for its conclave delegates depicting the lodge’s theme for that year’s event. This is the first of many issues from this lodge to use an image from popular culture.
Note that the lodge is not identified on this piece. This is probably one reason it was not listed in Blue Book. I have tentatively labeled this “N4.7?”.

There was also a Diamond Jubilee Patch issued for this event as well–red border and white background, with the diamond jubliee logo at the center. A picture of this can be seen in SanteeSwapper’s store.
