G’mar Chatimah Tovah

Posted in Personal Stuff by John E. Pannell on October 8th, 2008 at 4:00 pm

To my friends, brothers and readers of this blog of the Jewish faith:   G’mar chatimah tovah.

For those who do not know, this evening at sundown is the start of Yom Kippur.     In English it is called the Day of Atonement and is the most solemn and important of the Jewish holidays.   Observation of this day consists in part of a 25 hour fast beginning at sundown and continuing until nightfall the next day.

The Kol Nidre (audio file) is chanted in synagogue at the start of these observances, which must be said before sunset.   Some might recognize the music as at least two “pop singers” have recorded this in the past.

      Hi John,

Gut yontif. Thanks for the holiday greeting! I was at shul (temple) that whole day and fasted– not scant food, no food!

May everyone reading this have a year of peace and good health.
