New Tecumseh 332 Fake
Dan Jechura recently wrote me about a probable fake that has recently surfaced of the Tecumseh 332 S3a. He has discussed the authenticity of this piece with Cary Sitarz, Dave Eby, and Roy More. All four agree this probably a new fake. I am inclined to agree with them.
Dan also sent along scans of an authentic 332 S3a and the purported new fake. A scan of the front sides of these two patches is show on the left.
Dan points out in his email to me:
The backing of the patch shows it to be made in this era not the 70′s…
..Backing material is different, the legs of the real patch are fat, the fake is skinny. Colors are also a little different.
To my eyes the greatest color differences are in the shades of light blue / turquoise and brown. The white is also much brighter on the bottom patch, but that could possibly be explained to the storage practices of past owners of the top item. Also note that the “WWW” is thinner on the bottom patch than the top one, known to be authentic.
A scan of the backside of these patches is shown to the right. The two on the top are known copies of an authentic 332 S3s. The bottom two patches are examples of what is believed to be the new fake of this issue.
Dan reports these items are being sold on eBay by three different sellers. He did not immediately recall who the sellers were. Beware if you see what looks like a 332 S3 on eBay. It may well be one of these new probable fakes.
I will be re-examining my price guide data for this issue. Any necessary changes will be made to the pricing databases.
