I read the other day that Halloween is now the second biggest holiday in the US in terms of retail sales.   That turns to be false, yet another urban legend.     At best it ranks sixth, but still has become “big business”.     So it’s not surprising that some lodges have issued patches with Halloween themes.   Here are a few of the patches I have found with an explicit Halloween theme.

First is the patch pictured at the top of this post.     It is the 221 eX1997-3.     Halloween Fellowship is what the lodge called their Fall Fellowship that year.     The design of the patch is a stylized jack-o-latern with a representation of the lodge’s totem instead of the more usual scary face.

Lakota 175 S31?

Lakota 175 S31?

Lakota lodge issued a Halloween-themed flap that I think is related to a 2007 lodge event.   As no event is named on the flap I have tentatively listed this as the lodge’s “S31?”.

This lodge also issuef four patches for their 2007 Haunted Hike.     The three jacket patches and pocket patch all feature a similar design depicting a vampire in its bat form.

Semialachee 239 had a Halloween Weekend in 2001.     The patch issued for this event, featuring a ghost and a graveyard scene, is listed as eX2001-4.   If you pay careful attention to the design you might find a rather unfortunate — but certainly unintentional! — possible subliminal message.     Do you see it or am I just too cynical?     I guess it’s a “patch faux pas” of sorts.

Nacha Nimat 86, Echockotee 200, O-Shot-Caw 265, and Owaneco 313 have issued patches for various “haunted” events that can be viewed at each of these lodges’ pages.   I’m sure there’s more Halloween-themed OA patches out there.     Do you have any favorites?
