For Tolkien Fans: The Silmarillion Audio Book

Diehard fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works might appreciate this.   For everyone else this will probably be nothing more than a cure for insomnia.

Before there were hobbits and rings of power, there were elves and the great powers of the Valar and Maiar, and the undying lands of Valinor.     Before Sauron there was an even more treacherous dark lord, Melkor, of whom Sauron was just one of his lieutenants.     The style of writing is very dense, and never intended to be read as a single narrative.   It’s said to be   somewhat similar in style to the Old Testament of the Bible.

Listen to The Silmarillion, the stories of the earliest days of Middle Earth   as read by Martin Shaw, posted on YouTube after the jump.
