Eswau Huppeday lodge hosted the 1987 Old North State Conclave (SE-7) at Camp Bud Schiele.   Being that this lodge is a bit of a trendsetter lodge, this year’s patch in my opinion set a new standard for conclave patch design in this section.

The patch design is more than a bit remeniscent of the patches the lodge issues each year for the Carolinas Indian Seminar.   A modified representation of the lodge’s totem, a crossed tomahawk and rifle, is used here, with both items being carried by the traditional dancer.

For the first time for this section’s conclave, there was also a staff patch produced.     The event patch issued to all delegates was modified to allow the addition of   the word “Staff” in turquoise at the bottom of the patch.

Two neckerchiefs were also produced. The delegate version, available to all at this conclave, is pictured to the left.   The patch design was slightly modified for printing on a light purple neckerchief.     The staff neckerchief was identical except the the addition of “STAFF” in red adjacent to the left side of the patch design.

I expect there were also several other items produced including a jacket patch, mug, or bolo tie but I do not have any of these items.   If you can confirm anything else that was made, either for this of other years, please let me know.

In addition to the items officially produced by the section for this event several lodges issued items for their delegates to this conclave.

Klahican 331 issued a neckerchief.   It has not been listed in Blue Book.     That’s not too unusual as many of these various conclave neckerchiefs seem to have been ignored in the past.   I have tentatively listed this on this site as “N2.7?”.     A design of an American Indian surrounded by flames, was printed in green on a white neckerchief.

Catawba lodge had two issues for this conclave, a first for any lodge in this section or its successors.     The first issue was a green neckerchief, using a one color adaptation of the conclave patch patch design and listed on this site as N1.5.

The second issue was a flap listed as S26.     The design features the lodge’s hornet’s nest totem superimposed upon the totem of the host lodge, Eswau Huppeday 560.     Both these issues are pictured below.

Two pieces were also produced by Eswau Huppeday lodge this year.   The first item is what appears to be a neckerchief.     This lodge had a pirate theme for this conclave and that is reflected in the design.     I have heard some disagreement about whether this is a neckerchief or not.       It was never listed in Blue Book so I have labelled it as “N5.1?” on this site.

The second issue is a pocket flap.     Rather than follow up with the pirate theme, the flap features an American Indian with outstretched arms superimposed upon the lodge’s totem.     Blue Book and this site list the piece as S13.

Both items are pictured below.

If you know of any other section or lodge issues for this conclave please let me know, especially if you can supply me with images.
