Update: Illinois Councils To Merge

Posted in Scouting News by John E. Pannell on November 18th, 2008 at 5:02 am

I previously reported here that Trails West and Okaw Valley councils were planning to vote on a council merger.     The votes have since been taken and the councils have agreed to move forward on a merger agreement.

“Boy Scouts of America officials hope there soon will be one giant Boy Scout council to serve more than 24,000 Scouts in the metro-east and south-central Illinois.

Okaw Valley Council and Trails West Council have agreed to consolidate to form a new council, which has yet to be named. The decision of the two councils is not official. There will be a final vote Jan. 6 of all the concerned parties, said Fred Wallace, BSA area director.

After the consolidation, the combined council will get a new name…”

Please note that this merger is not yet final.     There is not a formal agreement to merge until after the January 6th vote.

As this is after the 12/31 recharter deadline for OA lodges both Kishkakon and Taleka lodges would recharter for 2009.     I have been told they will come to a merger agreement after their councils merge with a new lodge to be chartered in 2010.
