re: "What really amuses me is that many pieces from this set are on eBay right now (no bids)."

Some of this may have to do with quantity/availability. They made lots of extras of the '05 JSP set, and post-Jamboree were selling them off at the council office for less than a buck a patch.

Grab ya shorts Mike, the boys wanted a purple border on the cartooned jamboree flap. The flap was designed by the same person that did the coucnil's JSP's so they go hand in hand...Well in a way.

Sorry dude! Look at this in a positive way. Purple is the color of royalty. Is our lodge not deserving of royalty?

John- Occoneechee Council already did this with their cardinal for the last Jambo. They threw it in tights, changed the color a few times, and, as Greg put it "had fun". It is only right that the Lodge follow suit. What really amuses me is that many pieces from this set are on eBay right now (no bids). There is also an "unauthorized" Star Wars set from a rogue collector up (lots of bids).

While I don't agree with this collector's approach to producing “unauthorized” patches it is sad that they are consistently more collectable than youth designs with the exception of a corny one he did a few years back. While our current patch committee is doing a great job with merchandising maybe the Lodge should put this rogue collector in as an Advisor to the Patch Committee Advisor and give him veto power over designs- or maybe some poetic license to tweak them. He seems to have a knack for marketing- the Lodge should use it.

Sadly I hope he puts something out for this year's Jamboree so the traders in the Lodge actually end up with a piece that will trade.

Hmmm.. a Spider Man flap? Catawba ha already done superheroes, so this will fit right in. Just put him in purple tights and put a thunderbird head on him and you have the beginnings of a design!

If the illustrious patch committee is still taking submissions for the 2010 Jamboree flaps I will dust off my purple crayon and have something sent down to Camp this weekend. What better event to celebrate the rich traditions of the Lodge than the 100th Anniversary Jamboree. I guess it is also a good time for a Spiderman flap too- I don't think we have done that on a flap yet.

On a positive note I don't think the patches could get any worse so I am sure this flap is an improvement. Maybe someone took my Megan Fox idea from the Iron Man/Transformers patch to heart!

I can't wait to see the new 2010 event patches- it will be tough for them to beat the 2009 event issues but I am sure they are going to be nice.

Well with the designs submitted for the 104 Jamboree flap, I guess Mike Hunt will be overly upset AGAIN! But hey, the event series for 2010 is dedicated especially to those traditionalist that just can't bear to see the YOUTH having fun at something.

I guess Mike wouldn't be very happy with this flap from Catawba 459:

<img src="http://www.oaimages.com/img43/459dixie08-s.jpg"/>

Their 2008 activity patches follow the same theme.

I don’t want to discourage any youth from designing patches. Here is what I see. I see a Thunderbird that blew himself up. Why did we disembowel our lodge totem on a patch? I have been looking at my S-1 and its pretty blue. Why have we started this trend to purple? Purple triangles. Purple this. Purple that. Enough with the purple. Why not pink? Or lime green? We can think of new ways to trash the thunderbird. Lets get creative here. Maybe a bright pink Energizer Bunny Thunderbird? We could do a TeleTubbies theme next year. Make a vigil flap with that one with the triangle. Maybe drive the arrow right through its head (put him out of his misery). Easter is right around the corner. We could issue a special Easter flap with a Peep on it. A baby Thunderbird- how cool would that be? Maybe we should have done a Ronald McDonald Thunderbird when Rodney stepped down- Maybe put Hamburglar on it too. We can’t put Grimace on a flap though. He is purple.

Since 2004 we have been treating our totem like Paris Hilton's ChiWaWa. We dress him up like a leprechaun, a bird flu infected doctor, we've thrown a cape on it and put him in tights, made it a Spartan, we even killed him in 2007.

So kids. Lets stop dressing up our T-bird. This isn’t the girl scouts. We don’t play dress up with dolls. We’re men. We like to drop deuces with the door open. We talk about cats. And we like to go on riverboat gambling trips.

John,

It's not LPR velveteen. It's actually gray velveteen. Does that solve the problem :-)
