1946 Area I Fellowship - Reversed Colors

A friend of mine had this rather unusual 1946 Area I Fellowship patch on his table at the recent Old Hickory Trade-O-Ree.       The colors on this patch are reversed.     Instead of red silk screening on white felt this patch has white print on red felt.   I have previously posted about the more common 1946 Area I Fellowship patch on this blog.

Since I am not certain my friend wants his name used publicly, I am keeping his identity hidden for now.     He says this is one of two patches like this that he is aware of.     He does not know anything more about why this patch came about or what special purpose it might have had.     If anyone knows anything else about this item, please feel free to comment about it here.

Jason Shull shared these comments with me, which I am sharing verbatim with his permission:

I wanted to let you know what I know about the patch. I would have replied to the blog but have never signed up on your blog site and don’t have time to do it right now. The first of these two patches surface several years ago in a group of patches (probably 100 or so) on ebay. The dates on the patches as far as I can remember were from the late 80′s and early 90′s. It looked like a collection from a scout that would have attended a national jamboree or noac and did some trading. As far as I know the person that bought this lot wanted the patch just in case it turned out to be a legitimate item from 1946.

Several years later a friend of mine traded for the second example of this patch at a NC conclave hosted by Klahican lodge I believe. He asked the person he got it from if he knew anything about it and also asked around to some NC guys at the conclave. The responses he got was that it was a reproduction done in reverse colors so to not be confused with the original. About a year later he listed it on ebay as a reproduction patch and it sold for around $100. I believe the picture you have is of the second one that surfaced and was sold on ebay. After it was purchased on ebay about two weeks later the buyer listed it on ebay and said he didn’t know anything about the patch but it could possibly be a staff item. I asked the seller if he had any reason to presume it was a staff item but didn’t get a response. I then called a prominent collector and asked him about the item. He told me that he had talked to the owner of the other patch and they both felt like it was more than likely a reproduction made in the late 80s or early 90s.

This is all I can tell you about the patch, but please keep in mind that I am telling you this information from memory so some of the details may not be 100% accurate.
