Lodge 560: “Old” Unlisted Events Patches
There has been an odd hole in the Blue Book listings for this lodge’s event patches for 1981 and 1982. Eswau Huppeday lodge had been consistently issuing events patches since the mid-70s. I als knew that patches had been listed in these years as I had pricing data for them. However until now I had no images for these pieces. Thanks again to Larry Banks for sending along these images.
This update covers six previously unlisted events patches from Eswau Huppeday lodge. There are two from 1981 for the lodge’s Spring and Fall Fellowship. There are three from 1982 for the lodge’s Spring Fellowship, Fall Fellowship, and Winter Banquet. In addtion there is one for the 1983 Winter Banquet.
It is interesting that central design element of the 1983 Banquet patch bears more than a passing similarity to this lodge’s 1986 NOAC flap (S12). Also the pink border of this patch would appear to be a nod to the lodge’s 1983 Section Conclave flap (S8), which caused quite the storm when it appeared at the SE-7 Conclave that previous Spring.
The listing data for these six items are as follows:

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| eR1981-1? | BLK | R | DYL | BLK | RED | fdl; 1981 Spring Fellowship |

Why are all of these old issues just now coming to light? Are they THAT rare? Is the Blue Book editor slacking? I could understand something from the 40s or 50s coming out now, but 80s, 90s, and 00s? How does something that recent get overlooked?
No, these are not particularly rare in any way just not avidly collected outside of the lodge.
Events patches were added later to Blue Book. Before that no one really bothered to document them in any systematic, national, sort of way.
North Carolina has been split between two sections throughout most of modern OA history. The North Carolina editors have been in what is now SR-7B. Eswau Huppeday is in what is now SR-5 (Dixie). News didn’t always flow so well between lodges in the two sections even with lodge issues. It is understandable that the less collected events issues would then be ignored or not documented.
