Sisilija 19 S1

As I write this, I see Bill Mulrenin has not yet picked this up on his NY OA Trader blog.     It’s not often I beat him to something about his state! (Just kidding, Bill…)

A mint copy of the S1, the lodge’s first flap, from Sisilija 19 recently sold on eBay for $1,280.77.     This merged lodge used to be attached to the Schenectady County Council.     It later became part of Ganienkeh 19, then Haudenosaunee 19, and finally part of Kittan lodge.     It is part of one of the more complicated lodge merger histories within the OA.

The last two sales recorded in this site’s price guide were in 2007 and 2005, both for slightly more than $1,500.   Considering the earlier data for this issue, the patch sold for a value close to the long term mean price.   With this being only one of five data points for this issue, it is interesting to note the large differences in price between the previous four sales.   Possibly the first two points could have been used copies of this flap, or this item became more prized by collectors in recent years.   What do you think?

  1. Bill Mulrenin Says:

    John,
I was watching the auction and people did find it.

Eight unique bidders drove the price up from the opening bid of $500.00, three of them bid over $1000. A tougher First Flap.

Through an old program I have that is no longer supported I show a third sale in Oct. 8, 2004 from the same eBay seller which went for $1425.

Than you show an $799 sale and finally the $500 (11-4-04) within the span of a month and the third appeared to be used, but I have a very low resolution scan.

There was likely a degree of market saturation as well.

It would seem that for the older, classic pieces, there is still a strong market even in these troubled times.
