I’m back with another post about Occoneechee lodge patches…

Greg Grimes sent me images recently of two unlisted variations of the lodge’s S6 and S7.     These are the Ordeal and Brotherhood flaps from the lodge’s second OBV set, the first set with a fleur d’lis (FDL).     Both flaps are distinguished by their white plastic backs.   The S6b, S6c, and S7b all also exist with cllear plastic backs.

While these flaps are certainly visually different from the other S6 and S7 varieties, I don’t feel comfortable listing these are yet another variety.       This is a classic case of “MVE” (minor variations exist) to me.

The S7 with a white plastic back is shown after the jump.

    Then please tell me the difference in this and the 163 (b) S-8a & S-8b…inquiring minds want to know!

  2. John E. Pannell Says:

    That’s easy, Greg:

    1. They’re already in Blue Book so I can’t opine they shouldn’t be added;
    2. I didn’t write the listings so I have culpable deniability.

    ;)

    I have the white PB vigil flap of the same variety so it is a complete OBV set. The S18 has a clear PB and a black PB variety as well.

  4. Greg Grimes Says:

    Yep, John T is right. I finally got a white back S-8 Vigil flap. Thus it is clear to me now that this was a separate run of the OBV flaps. I believe 104 collectors will agree that this should be listed in our collections as a S-6d, s-7c, and S-8c

  5. Carlton McKee Says:

    I think that Greg is right. They should be listed as: S-6d, S-7c, & S-8c. If it was just one of the OBV instead of all three you could call it a MVE.
