Some OA lodges like to have all their events patches to follow a similar design scheme or theme for a year.     That may be either a “program year” or calendar year.     In an effort to facilitate this some lodges will produce all the patches for the year at once and then issue them later throughout the year as the events occur.     Occoneechee lodge has decided to do that this year.     Thanks to Greg Grimes for sending me the images of these upcoming pieces.

Each of the four patches is rendered in shades of a single color.     The colors are the same that were used on the four “Charley Sullivan flaps”     (S70?-S73?) issued last year.   They are embroidered on felt.

The lodge had a minor difficulty in getting these approved by the BSA patch design folks.   All four patches are shaped like a fleur d’lis (fdl).       Yet, the BSA objected to the design as it did not have an fdl on it.       So the lodge had to add an fdl into the design.

I am having difficulty deciding how to describe the colors on these patches.   I have been told there is no white used on these, that the writing is in a pale shade of each patch’s principal color.   The listing data for these issues, as they are issued, are as follows.

Issue Bdr Color/Type Bkgd Name fdl/BSA Comments
eX2009-1? RED C DRD PRD DRD fdl, shape of fdl on DRD felt; pale RED 104, 2009 Pow Wow
eX2009-2? GRN C DGN PGN DGN fdl, shape of fdl, on DGN felt; pale GRN 104, 2009 Spring Ordeal
eX2009-3? ORG C DOR POR DOR fdl, shape of fdl, on DOR felt; pale ORG 104, 2009 Fall Fellowship
eX2009-4? PUR C DPR PPR DPR fdl, shape of fdl, on dark PUR felt; pale PUR 104, 2009 Winter Banquet

Since these items are not yet issued, the numbering of them may change if there are any other event patches issued.
