Occoneechee 104 X42?

Occoneechee lodge has produced and soon will issue a patch commemorating the lodge earning the Honor Lodge award at last Spring’s SR-7B Conclave.     Thanks to Greg Grimes for this image.

In SR-7B, “Honor Lodge” is an award that is earned by one lodge based upon completing various tasks, duties, and responsibilities during the year.   Participation in the various programs at conclave are included as well as administrative items.   It is awarded at each year’s section conclave.         The winner can claim to be the “best lodge” in the section.

The listing data for this issue should be:

Issue Bdr Color/Type Bkgd Name fdl/BSA Comments
X42? PUR R M/C WHT GMY fdl; Honor Lodge Section Conclave 2009

Of course, I have to point out the purple border on this patch and give a few folks a well-deserved ribbing for it. ;)

Purple is a lot better border color than something like red.

  2. John E. Pannell Says:

Yes… purple is better than red!

  3. Greg Grimes Says:

    Alright y’all….

  4. Rick Ross Says:

That might be the worst looking patch I have seen in a while…

  5. Mike Hunt Says:

This summer I went to see Transformers with my grandson. This patch looks a lot like the transformer that got its butt kicked by Optometrist Prime? There is a neat shape to this piece and I like the breech clout- at least it invokes a quality Native American image on this cartoonish patch. It Doesn’t this issue look a lot like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Spider-ManvsMegatron.jpg
I think Occoneechee should have gone a different route on this one. Why not put Megan Fox sitting on the hood of a classic Thunderbird on it (the car not the lodge totem). Megan Fox straddling a T-bird has about as much to do with Occoneechee Lodge as a robot in a breech clout.

Not sure if you guys follow the news but Walt Disney just bought Marvel. Maybe we should change our lodge totem to a mouse. Think of all the things we can do with that!

And really- can we go back to GMY, SMY and RED borders? Who should I email about getting that done?

  6. John Pannell Says:

@ Mike Hunt: When did they introduce the character of an eye doctor into the “Transformers” films? OPTOMETRIST Prime!? Now *that’s* good for a laugh!

As for the classic Thunderbird on a patch, catchy idea but Timuquan lodge already put several classic “muscle” cars on their patches:

Timuquan 340: 2007 Summer Conclave Patch

Occoneechee lodge generally didn’t issue patches with RED, GMY, and SMY borders. Their 70th anniversary flaps (S64-S66) are a notable exception. Instead they used WHT, GMY and SMY backgrounds for their standard flaps, and still do. The traditional design remains in use for their standard flaps. The most recent of these are the S67 and S68 (no “special SMY flap” — can’t call it “Vigil flap” any more) issued just last year.

  7. Greg Grimes Says:

It is very apparent that Mike did not attend conclave this past year. If he had, he would know that his lodge won the Iron-man competition. Occoneechee also took Honor Lodge honors and various AIA awards. All 3 of these were incorporated into the design of this patch.

Sometimes one should seek out the facts before engaging :-)

  8. Jon Stewart Says:

Since all facts have been laid on the table. I will still stat this is one of the ugliest patches I have seen in a while. Occoneechee should get away from toon town. Go back to traditional. Jon stewart
