Aal-Pa-Tah Lodge 237 NOAC 2009
Anyone that has ever designed patches can tell of ambitious aspirations for an idea, only to fall short on the manufacturer’s execution of the design. Such is the case of the three two-piece sets from Aal-Pa-Tah Lodge 237, with their sets that put their alligator totem into the role of “action movie hero”. As with many patch designs, it looked good on paper.
The first (237-S-98 with X-67) was the “Vulcan Gator” theme (not to be confused with “Star Trek” which is a protected trade mark).
Next was S-99 with X-68, with a “Gatorine” theme (bearing only a slight, enough to pass muster againt accusations of possible trademark infringements to “Wolverine”). The missing shreds on the side of the flap are meant to look that way.
The third set was the “Gatornator” (S-100 with X-69), with a very intricate laser cut border on the bottom piece, and LED lights for eyes on the top piece (which explains the poor scan quality; the lights kepts the patch from lying flat on the scanner glass). The story has been told that the design created a bit of a “Calvinball” game with BSA licensing, that would approve the compromise of “Gatornator”, but rejected the original “Termigator” name.

As with the previous two NOACs, Aal-Pa-Tah created a Founders’ Day flap (S-101), distributed at the lodge’s Founders’ Day booth.
