Occoneechee 104 S78?

Occoneechee lodge recently issued a flap for this Summer’s 2010 BSA National Jamboree.       This is also a   BSA centennial issue.   Thanks to Greg Grimes for this image.

The lodge continues to used a modernized caricature version of their totem on this flap.     These have proven to be a hit with younger collectors even while being derided by a handful of adult collectors who prefer more traditional designs.     I only wish they used less ECU purple and more Carolina blue.   (just kidding)

The listing for this item is as follows:

Now that I’m back from Jamboree I’d like to say a few things in regard to this 104 flap. It was an absolutely HOT piece at Jambo even though we made 2000 of them everyone that walked up to my trading blanket wanted one. Even though I’m sort of a traditionalist myself, it was a good trading piece.

Colors DO make a difference in the design. Some folks wonder why we use so much black or purple. One simple fact. Both of those colors sell and sell extremely well. We sell patches to make money for the lodge, not to satisfy a few individuals that would rather have a non-sellable color. Light blue for example :-) The light blue bullion was around for a long time…a long long time. We ended up almost giving them away. The other bullion colors sold and sold quickly. Sorry John, the majority of our folks just do not like the light blue thread.

It’s not a ECU, UNC, Duke or State thing. Facts are facts and purple and black sell. If you do not believe me, put out a flap with these colors next to one of a different color. See which one gets picked up first. A red and black combination or a white and black combination are also good.

We’ve learned many things over the years in regard to colors and I think we’ll stick with it so we can hold the line on event fees and dues. While other lodges are increasing their fees, Occoneechee Lodge has held the line, so sorry for the few individuals that just can’t bear another purple or black thread in the design.
