It seems like there has been a never ending listing of new issues from the OA lodges in the Carolinas.     Next up are two chapter issues from Wahissa lodge that almost slipped through the crack.     Thanks to Homer Dearmin, again, for keeping me informed about these.

The first item, pictured on the left, was issued by Achowelendam chapter in honor of the BSA’s centennial.     After a run of several different chevrons, the chapter chose to issued a trapezoidal dangle.     More “experienced” collectors will recognize the central portion of the design.   This is similar to the National OA logo used roughly 40 years ago, before the advent of the “MGM Indian”.

The second issue is from the newly reformed Sapona chapter, the first patch it has issued in about 40 years.   Homer Dearmin explains this:

…Formerly, Sapona Chapter served Arrowmen from Yadkin, Eastern Wilkes, Western Surry, and Alleghany Counties.   Kola Chapter served the rest of Surry County and Stokes County.  These chapters were in existence from the 1960s through around 1980 or 1981.  Sapona and Kola merged in the early 1980’s to form Minsi Chapter, and Eke Otkia Chapter was formed from Minsi in the late 1980’s to serve Stokes County Solely. In the Fall of 2009, the Lodge Executive Committee approved the creation of two new chapters from the current Minsi Chapter, effectively dissolving Minsi Chapter.   One chapter would serve the former Sapona territory, and the other chapter would serve the former Kola territory.   Chapter members decided to use their old names rather than creating new Chapter names.

Hence, Sapona Chapter has issued it’s first patch in over 40 years.   The design is very similar to the Sapona X!, however with different border colors.

A fleur d’lis has been added to the older design, in keeping with current BSA rules.   Also this new Sapona chapter patch is fully embroidered while the older issue was only partially so.

The listings for these two items are as follows:
