Lodge 296: Region Chief Flap, "MVE"
Greg Grimes recently sent me this image of two RED bordered 2012 Home of the Region Chief flaps, showing something he noticed about them. Apparently there may be thin and thick letter variations in this issue. To me this is not significant enough to be listed as a variety. It is for cases like this that my site uses the notation, "MVE" (minor variations exist).
I told Greg I would share this image with fellow collectors. What do you think? Chase after this variation or not; that is completely up to you!

Breast Cancer Patch Checklist
Now that there is a growing list of breast cancer related patches as well as a devoted group of collectors chasing after them, I thought now is a good time to put together a list of those issues. I now know of at least 18 issues from 12 lodges, including a key fob and one chapter issue.
"Continue reading" to see the list.

Ahoalan-Nachpikin Issues Breast Cancer Flap
Ahoalan-Nachpikin lodge from Memphis, TN has joined the growing list of lodges (and one chapter) that have issued patches in support of breast cancer research. As with many others, this issue is also a pink monochrome. Thanks to Nick DeMarco for supplying this image.
If you know of any other patches that have been issued for this cause, please either send the images to me or comment on this post below. Thanks.

Presently on a few issues are shown. If you know of any that should be added, please let me know. This list should grow rapidly as we get closer to NOAC.

Skyloo 442 J4
Recently I have seen several Skyloo 442 Ceremony Jacket Patches pop up on eBay. Funny thing about that is that only one was issued per person per lifetime and this guy in Germany has an endless supply. Paul Collett and I know how many of these were made and issued and the very tough standards that were used to qualify for one. Scan of the real deal are on this site and if I ever get my hands on one of the fakes – it will be also. If you have one please send me a scan. This guy has also produced a fake of the 311 Es-Kaielgu F1.

Skyloo 442 ZJ1
About 200 of this design were made and 50 of those had the word Honorary stitched on the bottom for adults that advised a qualifying team. All were awarded and nobody (I repeat NOBODY) got an extra. In fact the lodge was so tough that they used the same patch when Skyloo merged with Cole Snass Lamatai. The Wauna La-Mon’Tay 442 X2 was created so that the patch could reflect the new lodge name. I have both jacket patches and the X2.

1977, the year I am elected to the Order of the Arrow, and Skyloo holds its second Native American Arts and Crafts Seminar. I am basking in the warm climate of 29 Palms, California wondering when I will get to the Palm Springs Tram to go up into the Mountains and ski (or more like fall a zillion times in the snow and have my girlfriend laugh at me). Back on topic — This event was held at the Chief Obie Lodge on Scouter’s Mountain.
Three items were issued for this event. A patch, a neckerchief and a pin. I do not have a scan of the pin but it was a golden buffalo with no words or numbers. Many people attended this event and the neckerchiefs proved to be the sought after item. The patches were produced in enough quantity so that very few were left over

Well here we go, the second set from an Oregon Lodge. Wauna La-Mon’Tay issued just 250 of these sets with 100 going to the members that have signed up. That left 150 for the collecting community (Less 8 that I know with 4 collectors buying 2 each).
An interesting fiction story goes with this set. The story was created by John Durbetaki and his son Mark is printed below. Enjoy

I know that I said I was going to do another piece on Wauna La-Mon’Tay specifically on 2002 but I could not really continue without going back to the first activity pieces issued by 442.
In 1976 Skyloo hosted an event called the Native American Arts & Crafts Seminar. They invited all of the neighboring lodges and basically held a workshop on regalia, crafts and food of the Native Americans. Some prominent local Native Americans showed up to help out with the event and overall it was a huge success.

In 2003 we issued only one activity patch for the year. We did not produce one for the NAACS (Winter Fellowship) and the LDC in the Fall.
For the backdrop of this patch we used the retiring MGM Indian design. The MGM indian is protrayed as smoke rising from the fire (The Spirit of Camping). A relatively simple design that turned out to be a very nice patch. There are still a few of these in my dupe stock and seem to trade well overall.
This is one of the only years that we only did a single activity patch. In preceding years we produced 3 or 4 patches for the same event. That is why it may appear difficult to the 442 collector to acquire a patch for this event. Don’t worry — I assure you that if you need this patch I can hook you up.
Next blog will be for the year 2002.

Here is the next installment in my series of activity patches from 442 Wauna La-Monà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Tay. In 2007 the lodge issued patches for their 3 major events, as they have done the previous couple of years.
The first event was our winter fellowship – the Native American Arts & Ceremonies Seminar. This patch featured a bear raising itself over a ledge. A kind of neat looking patch. This event was well attended and marked the first time that the lodge allowed a display competition (patches, scouting or Native American). It marked a turn around of several years of apathy toward collectors.

Friday and Saturday I had the honor of chairing the 2007 Ed Harris TOR/Auction in Portland, Oregon. This event was sponsored by The Cascade Pacific Council, Wauna La-Mon’Tay Lodge 442 and the NWTA chapter of ISCA. Everyone their had a great time and plenty of great trades were made and some nice items were bought on auction.
We had an average attendance which will hope to improve in the future (conflicts with neighboring lodge events and the Chicago TOR drew away people). Some improvements will be made and the next one will be even better. Next year will be a trade-o-ree only.
I picked up some very nice items and plugged up some holes in my Pacific Northwest OA collection along with some minor holes in other collections I have.
Some difficult Skyloo and Wauna La-Mon’Tay issues changed hands or went for nice prices on the auction block. Some Cole Snass items went as well. I would have like to have seen some other things on theauction block but that means I have to work harder on the donations in the future.
Kudos for everyone involved in the organization and running of the event. Comments are welcome to either the blog or to me personally.

Well last weekend witnessed the annual edition of the W1A Conclave, held at Hoodoo Ski Resort near Sisters, Oregon. Nearly 500 were in attendance which marks the umpteenth year in a row that the W1A conclave has had the highest attendance in Area 1 of the Western Region.
Again the section held an auction to fill the confers of the section. Over $12,000.00 was made which marks the 5th time in a row that the section has made over 10 grand in its auction. It is with pride that we boast the biggest section auction in the nation.

Ok, so I got long winded on the title but hey this was the first year that Wauna La-Mon’Tay issued patches for two of three major events.
The first event that warranted a patch was the Rendezvous of the Order held in March. This was a square patch with a mountain man as the main focus of the patch. Yes, no bear but I was told the mountain man had a bear claw necklace.
The next patch was issued for our Leadership Development Conference. Funny thing is that no mention of the lodge or order of the arrow is on the patch. The only thing that refers to the lodge is the bear. The lodge invited all of the scouts in the council to this event. We ran out of patches, so getting a dupe was very difficult.

Here is the second in my series of activity patches from 442 Wauna La-Mon’Tay. In 2006 the lodge again decided to issue patches for their 3 major events.
The general concept of the design was a medicine wheel with two feathers dangling from it. The first event patch was issued for the Native American Arts & Ceremonis Seminar. As you can tell it was left hand feather. About 500 of theses were made and siince the events only had 150-200 attendees there were left over patches.

April Fool!
It should go without saying that my post about this site being sold to a Google/eBay partnership was my annual April Fool's post. I have no plans at this time to give up or sell this web site. Long time readers will know this has become quite the tradition here and I usually start planning the posts several months in advance. The most famous (infamous?) of these was 2008's post concerning the abolishment of lodge names. It still creates difficulty from time to time for those in authority in the OA and BSA due to the inability of some to detect obvious (in my opinion) satire.

OAImages Soon Under New Ownership
This post contains important information regarding the future of this website. Please read carefully.
Many have noticed that I have found it hard to maintain this website for quite some time now. Due to various reasons, some of them beyond my control, updating the price guide regularly has become all but impossible. Things have become a bit less chaotic, but after 15 years this has become a chore. I also know that there will come the day when control of this site will need to be passed to another. With all that in mind, I have been considering various options for the future of OAImages. In the midst of this, a several months ago I was contacted by someone who made me an offer that was too good to resist. After many months of negotiations I am now free to announce that this site has been purchased by a combined partnership of Google and eBay. This will be effective July 1, 2012.

Tschipey Achtu Lodge: Update
Back in 2010 I announced the formation of Tschipey Achtu lodge as a result of the merger of Ty-Ohni 95 and Ganeodiyo 417. At the time I was told they would use the number 397, which is also their council number. This created a bit of controversy as that number is currently in use by Chilantakoba lodge in Louisiana. I also announced their first flap. Other than a 2010 Jamboree issue no further news from this lodge made it to me.
I was talking with a Roger Ward last night who was at the recent Winter South Carolina Trade-O-Ree. He tells me it has not been quiet in that lodge. The use of 397 was problematic. Many wanted to choose a different number. Some wanted to claim the number zero, but that was not well received given the special place Unami 1 holds in the Order of the Arrow. The Scout Executive, I am told, stepped in and told the lodge they will use the lower number from the two merged lodges.
The lodge is now known as Tschipey Achtu 95. I have updated the site to reflect this current information. Several new issues have also been added.

An OAImages iPad App?
Some of those who know me personally, know that I have gone over to the "Dark Side" and have started using Apple products. I bought an iMac a couple of months ago and just recently got an iPad. My brother is trying to tell me that my Droid's days are numbered.
I really like my iPad and started day dreaming about an OAImages app for it. I have no idea how to go about writing this and it would take me into an entirely new area from what I know. It's not something that would happen easily or soon. Here's your chance to give feedback. What do you think about an OAImages app? What would you put in it? Do you have any thoughts on how it would be distributed or how much it would cost?

Coming out of Hiding About April 1st
It's kind of odd to come out of hiding to post about a topic like this.
I'm hearing from some brothers that there have been gullible readers to this blog over the years. I would have thought it was obvious from the context of the posts, but the various posts made on this blog throughout the years that have appeared on APRIL FIRST are all satire. None of them are true. Read them and chuckle but please do not complain to your friendly OA National Committee members, Scout Executives, lodge advisers, or official website administrators about the "changes" that are "announced" in them.
