Unali'yi 236: 2009 Events Patches

Unali'yi 236: 2009 Events Patches

Unali’yi lodge issued several patches for its 2009 lodge events.         Along with patches for the 2009 Dixie Fellowship and 2009 NOAC these were intended to be pieced together to form a totem pole design.   This “puzzle patch” idea is not new to Unali’yi lodge, having previously done something similar in 2004 and 2007.     Thanks to Brad Hutto, again, for the images.

Section conclave and NOAC items are listed in the main body of lodge issues since these are not lodge events.     So, in order to insert these into their proper places two of the lodge’s NOAC issues will need to be renumbered.   The other items will be listed as lodge events.

Listing data for these pieces should be as follows:

Lodge 236: Fake Brotherhood Flap?

Unali'yi 236 ZS1?

Unali'yi 236 ZS1?

Bradley England sent me this image of a Unali’yi flap he was unable to catalog some time back.   I’m slowly catching up on things that need to be added here.     I suspect   this is a fake of some sort.   It is the design of the S35 Brotherhood flap, but the border is white instead of red.     The flap has the border color of the Ordeal flap, but the design of the Brotherhood flap.

I want to call this a fake but am reluctant to do so.     I know there are several regular visitors here who are well versed in South Carolina OA issues.     What do you all think about this flap?     Comments, please.

Unali'yi 236 S66?+X19?

Unali’yi lodge issued two two part sets for this past Summer’s NOAC.     I added these to the site in August but didn’t post about them at that time.     Once again, thanks to Brad Hutto for the images.

The design for both sets is based upon an adaptation of   the Order of the Arrow’s arrowhead logo with a silhouetted version of the leaping deer used on many of this lodge’s patches superimposed upon it.     The trader set (S66?+X19?, pictured) has a predominately yellow border.   The delegate set uses the same design but with a predominately red border.

The listing data for these sets are as follows:

Issue Bdr Color/Type Bkgd Name fdl/BSA Comments
S66? M/C R/C BLK BLK BLK fdl; NOAC 2009, mostly YEL border, trader
S67? M/C R/C BLK BLK BLK fdl; NOAC 2009, mostly RED border, delegate
X19? M/C R/C BLK BLK RED fdl; NOAC 2009, mostly YEL border, trader

Unali'yi 236 eX2008-1?

Unali’yi lodge decided to pay tribute to their first four arrowhead patches on 2008′s event patches.     Thanks again to Brad Hutto for supplying these images.

In addition to depicting the early arrowheads, the lodge wanted to make clear the ordering of these patches.     Writing indicating their order of issuance (eg. “The First”, “The Second”…) has been added to each of these.     The patch designs have been rendered as fully embroidered computer designed items, rather than attemping to duplicate the original style of their production.   At least one fleur d’lis has also been added to each patch

The listing data for these are as follows:

Unali'yi 236 S65?+X18?

Unali’yi lodge issued a single two-piece set for this year’s Dixie Fellowship. The set depicts the lodge’s take on Star Wars ™   with its “Buck Wars” theme.   If I am correct, the set depicts a scene similar to the fight between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

Unali'yi 236 2007 Events Patches

Unali'yi 236 2007 Events Patches

Better late than never!

I finally have news to report on the 2007 events patches issued by Unali’yi 236.     Thanks to Brad Hutto for sending word and images for these.

The lodge issued a total of four patches for the Spring and Fall fellowships and ordeals.   Each of the patches have a similar American Indian theme.   Traditional looking representations of members Great Plains Indian tribes were used.   When laid adjacent to each other they almost fit together to make an octagon.

236 S63?Unali’yi lodge had an evolving patch design for their two issues for this year’s Dixie Fellowship. The patch depicts a theory that some school systems still seek to ban, but with a Scouting twist. The matching pocket patch has many uses.

Thanks to Brad Hutto for the images.

I can finally report on the 2006 activities patches from Unali’yi lodge.   Thanks to Brad Hutto for the images of these patches.

Following recent practice, four activity patches were issued for the lodge’s Spring and Fall fellowship and Ordeal.   The patches all follow an icthyological theme.

Lodge 236: 2007 Dixie Fellowship Issues

Posted in SR-5 Lodges,Unali'yi 236 by John E. Pannell on May 10th, 2007 at 12:30 am

Unali’yi 236 let their inner nerd show at this year’s Dixie Fellowship.

They  issued a flap with a matching “dangle” this year, following their very geeky theme.   Two patch sets, where the bottom is meant to be a pocket hanger type patch seem to be becoming more popular in this part of the country.

Does anyone know what the writing across the top of the flap means?

Tschipey Achtu Lodge: Update

Back in 2010 I announced the formation of Tschipey Achtu lodge as a result of the merger of Ty-Ohni 95 and Ganeodiyo 417. At the time I was told they would use the number 397, which is also their council number. This created a bit of controversy as that number is currently in use by Chilantakoba lodge in Louisiana. I also announced their first flap. Other than a 2010 Jamboree issue no further news from this lodge made it to me.

I was talking with a Roger Ward last night who was at the recent Winter South Carolina Trade-O-Ree. He tells me it has not been quiet in that lodge. The use of 397 was problematic. Many wanted to choose a different number. Some wanted to claim the number zero, but that was not well received given the special place Unami 1 holds in the Order of the Arrow. The Scout Executive, I am told, stepped in and told the lodge they will use the lower number from the two merged lodges.

The lodge is now known as Tschipey Achtu 95. I have updated the site to reflect this current information. Several new issues have also been added.

An OAImages iPad App?

Some of those who know me personally, know that I have gone over to the "Dark Side" and have started using Apple products. I bought an iMac a couple of months ago and just recently got an iPad. My brother is trying to tell me that my Droid's days are numbered.

I really like my iPad and started day dreaming about an OAImages app for it. I have no idea how to go about writing this and it would take me into an entirely new area from what I know. It's not something that would happen easily or soon. Here's your chance to give feedback. What do you think about an OAImages app? What would you put in it? Do you have any thoughts on how it would be distributed or how much it would cost?

I have added special pages on this site for the 2011 Indian Summer and 2011 Summit Corps. I still have a few images to add but most of what I have images for is now on the site. Thanks for Rick Horne for most of these images.

To view these items, go to OA Images: National and Special Events Patches page and select either of these events from the "Other Specialties" drop down box. Read the Full Post

Coming out of Hiding About April 1st

It's kind of odd to come out of hiding to post about a topic like this.

I'm hearing from some brothers that there have been gullible readers to this blog over the years. I would have thought it was obvious from the context of the posts, but the various posts made on this blog throughout the years that have appeared on APRIL FIRST are all satire. None of them are true. Read them and chuckle but please do not complain to your friendly OA National Committee members, Scout Executives, lodge advisers, or official website administrators about the "changes" that are "announced" in them.

Comment Spam

This is strictly an "FYI" post for those familiar with the issues facing those who maintain blogs and message boards where readers can post comments.

Recently I had been having issues here with comment spam getting past this blog's filters. I deleted the inappropriate posts as quickly as I could but this was still unacceptable to me, as well as additional work. I since have required that readers register before they're allowed to post comments here. That seems to have stopped the spammers.

I still see a number of probable spammers, mainly from Russian domains, registering on this blog but so far none have had their comments posted successfully.

I may test my luck for a short period of time in the near future. At some unannounced time, I will turn off the registration requirement for posting comments for a day or two. I want to see if the spammers have been chased away, or if they're just awaiting an easy opportunity to push their garbage Read the Full Post

Change in Comments Policy

This blog is being hit with a large number spam comments lately. There have been over 12,000 attempts to spam the blog with comments just within the past 60 days. Recently a few dozen comments, hawking service and goods I deem inappropriate for this blog, made it past the filters. Since I don't desire to spend more time deleting the spam as I find it and don't want inappropriate information to sit on my blog, I am tightening up the policy on commenting here.

Those who wish to comment must now register and be logged in before being to post comments. Registration is free and is not the same as membership to this site. This is a common practice on many blogs especially among sites run by more "traditional media" type companies.
