Nayawin Rar lodge had an absolutely smurfy idea when they issued two flaps to be used by those attending the 2010 SR-7B conclave.   The choice of colors fit in with their smurfy theme.   Thanks to Wesley Drennan for these images.

The first of these two flaps (S57?) is a blue monochrome version of their current standard flap (S44?).   This was intended as a trader flap for those at conclave.     The second flap (S58?, pictured) was the more restricted conclave delegate flap, and is also the lodge’s fourth flap issued for the BSA’s centennial.   Both use the traditional representation of the lodge’s night hawk totem, but rendered in of blue.

Earlier this year Nayawin Rar lodge issued a flap as a fundraiser to support the efforts of section SR-7B to raise funds in support of troops serving overseas.   250 of these flaps were made.   According to the lodge’s website over $600 was raised.   There is also a matching oval.     This was intended to be the event patch for the lodge’s 2010 Winter Fellowship.     Thanks to Wesley Drennan for these images.

A few months ago Nayawin Rar issued three sets for the BSA’s 100th anniversary.     Thanks to Wesley Drennan for sending me the images.   It’s only my fault they haven’t appeared before now.     I still have more new recent issues from Nayawin Rar that will appear in a future post.

Each of these sets were issued and sold with a Tuscarora Council CSP.     The silver mylar (SMY) and gold mylar (GMY) bordered sets were sold at a premium, highly restricted in quantity, and individually numbered.   100 SMY bordered sets were issued.     Just 25 GMY bordered sets were produced.

The listing data for these are as follows:

Nayawin Rar has recently issued a new standard flap.   Thanks to Wes Drennan and Rick Pridgen for letting me know about this issue.

The primary difference between this new issue and the lodge’s previous standard flap lies in the bar that separates the upper and lower portions of the flap.     This is black and red on the “S44?” but just red on this newest version, “S52?”.   Both flaps are updated versions of this lodge’s traditional design, in use since the lodge’s F1.

Lodge 296: Two More NOAC Flaps

Earlier this year Nayawin Rar order their flaps for this year’s National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC).     The flaps were produced and sent to the lodge.   On one of these flaps delegate was misspelled as “delecate”.     The lodge was not pleased with how the trader turned out either and made some changes to it as well.     So the designs were altered and two new flaps ordered.     These were the flaps issued by the lodge before NOAC.     The runs of the first two flaps were held by the lodge and only recently issued at the lodge’s Fall Fellowship.     Thanks to both Wes Drennan and Rick Pridgen for sending along images of these.

Wesley Drennan sent news and images of several new items from Nayawin Rar lodge.     Among them were the patches for this lodge’s 2009 Spring and Fall fellowships.

Both patches share a similar design scheme.     A traditional representation of the lodge totem is in the middle of a triangular patch, surrounded by the names of the lodge’s three chapters.   The Spring Fellowship patch is pointed upwards.   The Fall Fellowship patch points downwards. The lodge name does not appear on either patch.     Unless I’m missing it, there is neither a fleur d’lis or “BSA” on these patches.

Lodge 296: NOAC Flaps

Nayawin Rar 296 S49?

Nayawin Rar 296 S49?

It has been reported to me that Nayawin Rar will issue four flaps for this year’s NOAC.     Yes, they will issue.   The lodge ordered and received their two NOAC flaps.   One had an error on it.     The lodge took this as an opportunity to correct the error, make some minor design changes and reorder.   The revised patches were issued in time for NOAC.   The rumors are that the original patches will be issued this Fall.   When I know something more concrete, I will report it here.     Once again thanks to Greg Grimes for these images.

The lodge continued the tradition dating back to its 1996 NOAC flap (S18) of using a predominately black and white color scheme for its NOAC issues.   The brothers of this small lodge have shown us that an abundance of colors, special threads, flashing lights or other gimmicks are not required to produced a well designed and attractive patch.

2009 Conclave Campsite Host Patch

Rick Pridgen has sent word and an image of yet another patch related to last April’s 2009 SR-7B conclave, aka the Cardinal Conclave.     Rick reports that this patch was issued by Nayawin Rar lodge for those who worked as campsite hosts.     Thanks, Rick.   I have since been hit with a small deluge of emails from other collectors about whether or not this patch was an authorized issue of Nayawin Rar lodge.

The patch was produced after the conclave for those Scouts and Scouters who assisted with campsite host duties.     Some of these were not arrowmen.   Nayawin Rar is a very small lodge and I am told they enlisted the aid of non-Arrowmen to help with their service lodge duties.

Nayawin Rar 296 C1?

Nayawin Rar lodge was selling an interesting, if a bit “retro”, jacket patch at last weekend’s SR-7B conclave           It is a 7″ round felt patch.     The central portion of the design is chenille.     The lodge name on the outer ring of the patch is embroidered on the felt.

Since the central portion of this patch is chenille, this item will be listed on this site as “C1?” rather than “J4?”     The listing data for this issue are as follows:

Lodge 296: 2009 Conclave Flaps

Nayawin Rar 296 S48?

Nayawin Rar hosted the 2009 SR-7B Conclave this past weekend at Camp Tuscarora.     Following the example of six years ago, the lodge issued three flaps.     In a welcome change from conclaves in the recent past, two of these were readily available in the trading post and easy to acquire.

The third flap was for conclave staff (pictured), had a significant service requirement, and was distributed one per person with no extras available for sale.       This was arguably* the most difficult lodge issue for the conclave to acquire.     one of the conclave staff flaps was sold in the conclave’s patch auction on Saturday evening.     The flap was issued with an accompanying certificate of authenticity.

These are not yet on the main part of this site.     The listing data for these issues are as follows:

Recent OAImages News

Tschipey Achtu Lodge: Update

Back in 2010 I announced the formation of Tschipey Achtu lodge as a result of the merger of Ty-Ohni 95 and Ganeodiyo 417. At the time I was told they would use the number 397, which is also their council number. This created a bit of controversy as that number is currently in use by Chilantakoba lodge in Louisiana. I also announced their first flap. Other than a 2010 Jamboree issue no further news from this lodge made it to me.

I was talking with a Roger Ward last night who was at the recent Winter South Carolina Trade-O-Ree. He tells me it has not been quiet in that lodge. The use of 397 was problematic. Many wanted to choose a different number. Some wanted to claim the number zero, but that was not well received given the special place Unami 1 holds in the Order of the Arrow. The Scout Executive, I am told, stepped in and told the lodge they will use the lower number from the two merged lodges.

The lodge is now known as Tschipey Achtu 95. I have updated the site to reflect this current information. Several new issues have also been added.

An OAImages iPad App?

Some of those who know me personally, know that I have gone over to the "Dark Side" and have started using Apple products. I bought an iMac a couple of months ago and just recently got an iPad. My brother is trying to tell me that my Droid's days are numbered.

I really like my iPad and started day dreaming about an OAImages app for it. I have no idea how to go about writing this and it would take me into an entirely new area from what I know. It's not something that would happen easily or soon. Here's your chance to give feedback. What do you think about an OAImages app? What would you put in it? Do you have any thoughts on how it would be distributed or how much it would cost?

Coming out of Hiding About April 1st

It's kind of odd to come out of hiding to post about a topic like this.

I'm hearing from some brothers that there have been gullible readers to this blog over the years. I would have thought it was obvious from the context of the posts, but the various posts made on this blog throughout the years that have appeared on APRIL FIRST are all satire. None of them are true. Read them and chuckle but please do not complain to your friendly OA National Committee members, Scout Executives, lodge advisers, or official website administrators about the "changes" that are "announced" in them.

Comment Spam

This is strictly an "FYI" post for those familiar with the issues facing those who maintain blogs and message boards where readers can post comments.

Recently I had been having issues here with comment spam getting past this blog's filters. I deleted the inappropriate posts as quickly as I could but this was still unacceptable to me, as well as additional work. I since have required that readers register before they're allowed to post comments here. That seems to have stopped the spammers.

I still see a number of probable spammers, mainly from Russian domains, registering on this blog but so far none have had their comments posted successfully.

I may test my luck for a short period of time in the near future. At some unannounced time, I will turn off the registration requirement for posting comments for a day or two. I want to see if the spammers have been chased away, or if they're just awaiting an easy opportunity to push their garbage Read the Full Post

Change in Comments Policy

This blog is being hit with a large number spam comments lately. There have been over 12,000 attempts to spam the blog with comments just within the past 60 days. Recently a few dozen comments, hawking service and goods I deem inappropriate for this blog, made it past the filters. Since I don't desire to spend more time deleting the spam as I find it and don't want inappropriate information to sit on my blog, I am tightening up the policy on commenting here.

Those who wish to comment must now register and be logged in before being to post comments. Registration is free and is not the same as membership to this site. This is a common practice on many blogs especially among sites run by more "traditional media" type companies.
